To support medical research on the role of Essential Fats in the diagnosis,
prevention and treatment of human health.
Ex: cardiovascular disease, Crohn's disease, etc.
Publish the quarterly newsletter "The Essential News on Fats;" distribute newsletter to qualified professionals; post newsletter on Internet.
Support scientific papers and studies by Dr. Siguel. Prepare education materials for physicians, nutritionists, educators, and consumers. Develop new treatment approaches for abnormal lipids, diabetes, Crohn's disease, heart disease, and other conditions.
We investigate the role of fats using human blood samples from the well-known Framingham Heart Study as well as from a variety of patients. Our research has identified abnormalities of EFA metabolism which, if left uncorrected, lead to high cholesterol ratios, impaired neurological growth, cardiovascular disease, immune disorders, brain dysfunction, and a variety of other complications.
We explained why low fat diets lacking Essential Fats can lead to premature heart disease, behavioral and learning difficulties, low HDL, high triglycerides, and many other problems. We have warned about misunderstanding the USDA Food Pyramid. According to our research, current fads to eat foods high in calories and low in Essential Fats are dangerous.
We use new methods to measure the blood levels of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fats (including the EFAs). Because we identified a key nutritional factor that prevents cardiovascular disease, a "missing link" which relates nutrition to hardening of the arteries, our research was reported in medical trade and scientific journals, Time magazine, The New York Times, consumer magazines, local and national radio, and TV. The American College of Cardiology selected our findings on cholesterol ratios and EFAs for a Press Conference on 3/14/94.
We plan to expand our research with further studies on how fats can cause or prevent cancer, the complications of diabetes, arthritis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Cystic Fibrosis. Our long-term goal is to teach people to eat better and to encourage food manufacturers to produce healthier foods.
We investigate how fats affect health by analyzing blood samples from the well-known Framingham Heart Study and from selected patients. Our revolutionary state of the art research has identified abnormalities of EFA metabolism which, if left uncorrected, lead to abnormal cholesterol ratios, impaired neurological growth, cardiovascular disease, immune disorders, brain dysfunction, and a variety of other complications. We have been published in leading scientific journals and featured in medical trade journals, Time magazine, The New York Times, consumer magazines, and local and national radio and TV. The American College of Cardiology selected our findings on cholesterol ratios and EFAs for a Press Conference in March of 1994.
We need research contracts and donations to support research on the role of the fatty acids found in vegetable oils and animal food. We need money to prove that foods such as chicken, eggs, fish, meat and vegetable oils are not only safe and healthy, but essential for life. Instead of labeling these foods as "optional", to be avoided, they ought to be considered "essential" or "required." We also need funds to do research and explain why fat avoidance and low-fat foods can be hazardous.
We need to enlist your help in making sure our research and education efforts can continue. To continue our research, we need funding, computers, software, and related equipment. Your contribution can improve the use of nutrition to prevent and treat disease, and help support our home page.
I urge you to join me and become a partner in our efforts to find better nutritional treatments for heart disease, cancer, immune deficiencies, and other problems. These new approaches have enormous potential to increase life span, reduce dependency on expensive medical procedures, and enhance well being.
In addition to a significant tax deduction, you will have the satisfaction of contributing to major research projects in human nutrition. Our studies reported in journals and conferences may describe the products we use, and wherever proper, your contribution(s) will be acknowledged. If you would like to know how your products can be used in our "state-of-the-art" research, please contact us.
The National Center for Nutrition and Fatty Acid Research, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) private operating foundation. Donations of appreciate property may be deductible at full value. For example, if you own appreciated stock, you may donate it to us instead of selling it, and get a tax deduction for current value. Check with your accountant; we cannot provide legal or tax advice.
