Cardiovascular disease; stroke;
atherosclerosis; poor blood circulation; abnormal cholesterol; high
triglycerides; hypertension; coagulation disorders;
Diabetes; kidney disease; arthritis;
Inflammatory Bowel Disease; celiac disease;
cystic fibrosis;
Neurological and psychological abnormalities
such as Alzheimer’s disease; depression; reduced brain function associated with
aging; impaired vision;
Abnormalities in children fed diets low in
EFAs or breast milk from mothers with insufficient levels of EFs, such as
hyperactivity, slow growth, attention deficit disorder;
Premenstrual syndrome; pregnancy
complications such as preeclampsia and prematurity; (proper EF intake can help
your children to grow better brains);
Malnutrition; wasting states;
Seborrheic dermatitis; dry skin;
AIDS and other immune deficiencies; reduced
cell survival; impaired wound healing;
Allergies and asthma.
Measurements of EFAs in women contribute to better therapeutic intervention on lipid parameters to reduce atherogenic risk. Other conditions include neurologic and brain dysfunction; dyslexia, behavioral and learning abnormalities, arthritis, coagulation disorders; abnormal red cells; and abnormalities of the immune system.
Why order the
fatty acid profile EFA-SRä? Rationale + diagnostic and treatment uses;
medical necessity.
Where to order: how to find a good laboratory. Common errors made when measuring fatty
acids: what to look for.
Instructions (for patients, providers, lab
technicians): What to do if you want to have your blood analyzed. How to order the test. Requisition
form (health provider: contact us when ready to
order). Other diagnostic tests you may have done at
the same time.
DO NOT PLACE ORDERS without checking with
Dr. Siguel first. We have temporarily suspended most orders although we usually
accept research agreements.
Types of Fatty Acid Profiles.
Different types of tests: fatty acids measured and why. For most patients, the
best profile is a profile in plasma. Some patients may be concerned about trans
fatty acids (an additional charge). In some conditions, we need both plasma and
RBCs. RBCs alone (without plasma profiles) are not recommended because the RBCs
do not reflect metabolic status.
Results: What can I
expect my test results to tell me? What can I do with them?
Examples: Case
studies of test results and their applications to different diseases.
Cost: What you get for
your money. Research vs. clinical tests (save money by participating in our
research trials). Professional billing information.
Medical necessity.
Forms for patients, doctors. How to appeal insurance
rejections. Forms for patients, doctors.
A letter requesting your test results. A letter requesting a copy of
your medical history.

our education/ tutorials section.
Historical Background:

Methods. A comprehensive
description of how the test works; examples. See Siguel's articles (future
update will include a description).
Siguel's patent,
"Method for diagnosis of fatty acid or lipid abnormalities."
Labs: we are looking for lab space and collaborators.
Providers: Use
results of the fatty acid profile EFA-SRÔ
to provide further services to your patients.
If you cannot afford the fatty acid profile EFA-SRä, you may still consider eating more PUFA oils, although the health benefits won't be as great because you may not eat the best mixture for your own body. You should definitely eat more vegetables, less saturated and trans fats. The best thing you can do is achieve ideal weight and eat fewer calories to lose weight if necessary.
