Products and services we liked or difficult to find

We review products and services that we found particularly useful, interesting, or annoying. Our purpose is to save time and money. HOWEVER, these are our opinions based on our personal experiences. Buy or use any of these products or services at your own risk.

Baby

Breast pumps

Avent manual breast pump and supplies: very convenient to use, great for travel. Has several parts which need to be taken apart and cleaned after each use, but they are easy to clean. Very comfortable on the breasts.
Egnell electric breast pump: this is the Rolls Royce of breast pumps. It is very expensive and intended for professional use. It is similar to the one used in the hospital. Very comfortable, easy to clean. Very good on the breast, with many adjustable features. If you need to pump a lot and have tender breasts, and other machines do not work, this model will likely work fine. If you plan on having many children, the model should last many years.

Computers- Hardware

Scanners

Epson Perfection 1200U: very easy to use, fast. Apparently not compatible with some software. Our expensive OCR software OMNI Page 10 does not appear to have a driver for the 1200U. However, we were able to use it without any known problems.

Computers- Software

Infoselect v.5. One of the best programs to keep track of notes, ideas, names, etc.

§ Dragon Naturally Speaking Software. Excellent for converting spoken words into computer text.

Foods

Butterscotch flavored oil: a controversial taste flavor, if you like butterscotch it's really good. Available from Omega Nutrition.

Organic soybean oil. From Spectrum Naturals. Soybean oil from organic sources. Excellent source of w3 and w6 essential fatty acids linolenic and linolenic.

Household

Fly catchers

Terra fly catchers large surface area catches more flies. Good design (large plastic base) so the paper does not stick to wall. Excellent to eliminate pesky flies that come with fruits or indoor plants.

Difficult to keep the baby occupied. Many of the toys are either too difficult or too dumb. Any kid will play for a few minutes with almost any toy and appear happy (like in the ads). The trick is to find a toy that he will play for months, and for hours each day.
