Framework/ Structure for developers

This section gives guidelines for providers of information. How to develop your home page. You can arrange to have your pages listed with us.

This section is always under development. Some of the information provided is inaccurate or fictitious, because it is intended only to illustrate the design and structure of pages for this site.

Recommended that you use Word for Windows and Internet Assistant for Word for Windows to create your home page as a local web and send your local web files. Files available from Microsoft.com.

You may use:

Different headings, like an outline, heading one, heading two, etc.

 Bullets, like this one.

 Bold and underline.

Sections, align left. . Bold and underline those words that refer to other sections (hypertext links). Separate with a new page break, like a horizontal bar like this

Avoid graphics: they are cute, but take too long to load.

Provide factual information. Discount coupons, e-mails, 800 phone numbers, list of stores carrying your products/services, members, etc.

If your text is longer than 3 pages, break it into sections. Each section starts with a keyword. At the beginning, place a table of contents or a list of sections. Each should be associated with a keyword underlined. By clicking on that keyword, users can find what they need. If you do not know how to do it, just list the sections and keyword. We will try to do the rest.

How to prepare YOUR OWN PAGE

Prepare your document using Word for Windows. If you use another word processor, we will convert as best as we can.

Read the information we display in the Internet, and notify us of errors ASAP. Comments/corrections that are not critical will be incorporated about once every 3-6 months, perhaps sooner.

Follow the structure indicated here

Title. Center, font Arial (Internet changes fonts anyway).

Text vs Graphics vs Sound, Video, etc.

  • Text in ASCII.
  • Have icons or item to click or mark in order to retrieve a picture or audiovisual on that item.
  • For some items the audiovisual/picture appears automatically with that item (this is important if you want the user to see a particular product). Use small or low resolution graphics, because most users do not have access to the high-speed lines for complex graphics or audio. Send pictures as separate files (further information will be provided at a later time).

Pricing information to access files

No charge at present. Eventually we may charge for it.

You can indicate prices for services/products.

Look at Internet for examples of pages.

Liability

Provider of information assumes liability for information provided.

 Read specific terms in contract

Follow an outline.

Lengthy information should broken up, with hyperlinks to specific sections. Follow guidelines to write Web Pages with HTML. Use sentences, single column. No boxes. Only approved fonts. Graphics only as indicated. Provide files in IBM compatible format, Word for Windows 6, if possible.

Organize as an outline. Use separate computer files with unique names (up to 8 characters that cannot be confused). The use of separate files makes it easy to update information by only changing a few files. Keep information that will rarely change in separate files. Try to put information that changes frequently in one file, so that we do not need to change many files.

As a general rule, you can take your current brochures and send us the information on floppy disk. However, we cannot support fancy formatting. No columns, no fancy artwork, no fancy fonts or letters. Just plain text with a few pictures.

I suggest you prepare about 2-6 pages of information with a few pictures and indicate where you want the pictures placed. This will be used as a test to give you an idea of how things look. In a few months we will change them.

e-mail

Many organizations would need to have four different e-mail addresses:
